President:   Barbara Terrell

After raising a family, Barbara Terrell went back to college to receive a Bachelor of Science in Business in 2002. She also received a California Teaching Permit in 2001. She has been in family childcare for over 28 years and offers a preschool program for the children in her care. As a provider, she serves as vice-president in the East Oakland Childcare Association. In the community she advocates for children through several early child care programs and intervention services. Additionally, she serves on the Advisory Committee for Child Development at Merritt College. Her past experience includes serving as Co-Chair  and eventually Chair of the Alameda County Planning Council and Co-Chair for the Family Child Care Coalition. She looks forward to serving as President of CAFCC.

  Fund Raiser Committee:    Muriel Sterling

Muriel Sterling is a Family Child Care Provider in Oakland Ca.   She has been a provider for the past 36 years. She is assistant secretary, ways and means chairperson and historian of CAFCC, president of the East Oakland Licensed Child Care Association, Chairperson of the Regional Family Child Care network and member of the Alameda County Family Child Care Coalition.  She is very active in the child care field attending related  meetings, workshops and conferences as well as hosting them.

Past President: Marjorie Danforth

Marjorie Danforth, mother of 7 children, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was born and raised in Washington, D.C.  She moved to California in 1972 to work for the government, setting up an office for student loans. She held that position for 6 years.  She attended Golden State University and received a BA in Public Administration. 

There was such a great need for professionals in the child care field and with her interest in children, she was led to become a family child care provider.  She joined West Contra Costa County Child Care Association and held the position of president for 7 years. She also attended West Contra Costa College during that time and received an AA degree in Early Childhood Education.  She was a family child care provider for 28 years, president of CAFCC for 7 years and the 1st president of the International Association with a 2 year term. She has been a CAFCC board member for the past 30 years holding many positions, in addition to working with organizations such as NAFCC and CAEYC. 

Membership:  Dolores Martinez

A licensed child care provider since 1981, Dolores Martinez lives in Berkeley. She has an A.A. degree in General Education and over 30 ECE units.  She holds a Child Development Teacher Permit and currently works as an infant/toddler teacher at a private preschool in Oakland.  Previously employed at Oakland Licensed Day Care Operators Association (OLDCOA) as the Client Services Manager, Dolores coordinated ECE trainings and parenting classes for teachers, family child care providers and parents. While at OLDCOA she worked as the Program Manager of their Cal Works subsidized payment program.   

Dolores, an advocate for child care providers, has served on the following boards:  President, CAFCC; Secretary CAFCC; Membership Chair Berkeley Albany Licensed Day Care Operators Association; Secretary, East Bay Association for the Education of Young Children; Member, Berkeley Mayor’s Child Care Task Force; Secretary and Central California Area Coordinator, Child Care Training Collaborative; and Vice Chair, Alameda County Child Care Planning Council.  

Dolores enjoys working with young children, each with their own unique special  personality, which makes each day a fun learning experience for her.   Dolores and her husband, Willie, have three children, six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Pat Alexander has been a family child care professional for over 40 years.  Pat finished her AA degree in Early Childhood in May of 2010. It was a labor of love that took many years to complete since she worked full time in her Child Care program all week and could only go to school Part time.  She works with her husband of 37 years.   She has achieved National  Accreditation with  NAFCC 3 times in most recent years.   Pat serves on the board for several organizations and is currently the President for Sacramento Valley AEYC.  She is an advocate for Providers and  continues the fight for providers to be recognized as professionals. 

Pat does not have a retirement date set but would like to have 45 years plus running her child care.
